108. The Summer of Love

De show "The Summer of Love" mag dit theaterseizoen aftrappen en als we de recensies lezen, dan mogen we heel wat verwachten. The Summer Of Love (een Engelse productie) neemt je mee terug op een nostalgische, muzikale reis naar de legendarische zomer van 1967. Een explosie van kleuren, psychedelica, vrijheid, ‘peace & love’ en - uiteraard - de fantastische, tijdloze muziek uit dat jaar die een inspiratiebron bleek te zijn voor een complete generatie.

Direct in het begin denk ik: wat is dit, waar heb ik een vergelijkbare show eerder gezien? Gatver, het lijkt wel alsof iedereen elkaars concept afpikt. Ik ben best wel teleurgesteld, maar tijdens de show wordt het beter en na een paar uur moet ik concluderen dat het wel een redelijk goede show is, mede natuurlijk omdat de muziek uit lang vervlogen tijden komt. Die muziek blijft nog steeds tot de verbeelding spreken. 

De setlist is geweldig en ik ken bijna alle nummers. Toch ben ik behoorlijk verbaasd als ik het mooie, doch zeer ongebruikelijk in een show gebruikte nummer hoor van Stephen Stills. "Love The One You're With" staat in mijn top 100 aller tijden en is dus één van mijn favorieten. Blij verrast ben ik ook als "Helter Skelter" van de Rolling Stones voorbijkomt. 

Jammer dat die vrouwelijke leadzangeres vaak te dicht bij de microfoon staat, dat komt het geluid naar mijn mening niet ten goede, maar ja, wie ben ik? Te kritisch persoon denk ik! De zanger met de hoed op heeft een bekend geluid en ik denk: op wie lijkt die stem toch? En ja dan hoor ik toch iets van een Bob Dylan-stem. Frappant is dan dat juist hij een paar liedjes later 'Like A Rolling Stone' van Bob Dylan inzet. Het past hem echt perfect.

Al met al hebben we toch een leuke start van het theaterseizoen 2019/2020.

​The show "The Summer of Love" can kick off this theater season and when we read the reviews, we can expect a lot.The Summer Of Love (a UK production)  takes you back on a nostalgic, musical journey to the legendary summer of 1967. An explosion of colors, psychedelics, freedom, 'peace & love' and - of course - the fantastic, timeless music from that year that is a source of inspiration turned out to be for a complete generation.

​Right from the start I think: what is this, where have I seen a similar show before? It seems as if everyone is taking each other's concept. I am quite disappointed, but during the show it gets better and after a few hours I have to conclude that it is a pretty good show, partly because the music comes from days gone by. That music continues to appeal to the imagination.

The set list is great and I know almost all songs. Still, I am pretty surprised when I hear the beautiful but very unusual used Stephen Stills song in a show. "Love The One You're With" is in my top 100 of all time and is therefore one of my favorites. I am also pleasantly surprised when "Helter Skelter" of the Rolling Stones passes by.

About the performances
It is a shame that the female lead singer is often too close to the microphone, in my opinion that does not benefit the sound, but yes, who am I? Too critical person I think! The singer wearing the hat has a familiar sound and I think: who does that voice look like? And yes, I hear something from a Bob Dylan voice. It is striking that he starts Bob Dylan's 'Like A Rolling Stone' a few songs later. It fits him really perfectly.

​All in all, we still have a great start to the 2019/2020 theater season.
