The Bootleg Sixties: Een Muzikale Tijdreis vol Energie en Nostalgie
Wat een avond! Voor de 11e keer (!) zetten The Bootleg Sixties theater De Voorveghter compleet op z’n kop. Dit is niet zomaar een concert—het is een belevenis, een reis terug in de tijd, recht naar de gloriedagen van de jaren zestig. Vanaf het allereerste akkoord waan je je weer tussen iconen als The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks en The Small Faces, enz. enz.

Op rij 2
Vanavond zat ik alleen op rij 2, maar dat deed niks af aan de sfeer. Sterker nog, het maakte de beleving misschien nog intenser. Bij eerdere shows heb ik de bandleden ontmoet en zelfs samen op de foto gestaan, dus het voelt bijna vertrouwd. En zodra de eerste klanken van een Beatles-nummer klinken, weet je: dit wordt weer magisch.
Wat deze show zo bijzonder maakt, is niet alleen de muziek – die overigens tot in perfectie wordt gebracht – maar ook de visuals. Meer dan 300 videobeelden ondersteunen de nummers en dompelen je onder in de sixties. Het is alsof je écht even teruggaat in de tijd.

Passie en precisie
De energie spat van het podium. De bandleden spelen met zoveel passie en precisie dat het onmogelijk is om stil te blijven zitten. De medleys zijn verrassend en de setlist zit vol klassiekers. Mijn persoonlijke favorieten? Zonder twijfel The Small Faces en The Who. Jamie Goddard vroeg mij in Messenger of ik veel video's en foto's kon maken en dat heb ik uiteraard gedaan. Ze  mogen alles gebruiken.

Of je nu opgegroeid bent met deze muziek of ‘m net aan het ontdekken bent—The Bootleg Sixties bezorgen je een avond vol kippenvel, glimlachen en herinneringen. Sluit je ogen, laat je meevoeren, en voel hoe de muziek de jaren zestig weer tot leven brengt.

10 of 11 jaar in Nederland - wat is het nou?
Volgens Dan spelen ze dit jaar alweer tien jaar in Nederland – al zei hij dat vorig jaar ook al, toen er net als vanavond een Nederlandse medley voorbij kwam. Misschien een klein leeftijdsdingetje bij Dan? Of gewoon een running gag. Hoe dan ook: ze zijn inmiddels zó ingeburgerd dat ze wat mij betreft gewoon een verblijfsvergunning mogen krijgen.
Al op Facebook en Instagram kreeg ik te horen dat dit mogelijk het laatste optreden was. Tijdens de afterparty sprak ik o.a.  Den hierover en hij bevestigde dat het nog niet helemaal vaststaat, maar dat ze wat tijd voor zichzelf nodig hebben. Begrijpelijk natuurlijk – na zoveel jaren op tour.
Toch bekruipt je een soort melancholie. Hoe kan een band zó goed, zó succesvol, zomaar stoppen? Je voelt je weer even een tiener, die denkt: nee, dit mag niet eindigen.

What a night! For the 11th time (!), The Bootleg Sixties blew the roof off Theater De Voorveghter. This is not just a concert—it’s an experience, a journey back in time to the golden days of the 1960s. From the very first chord, you feel like you're right there, surrounded by icons like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, and The Small Faces, etc. etc

Front Row Experience
Tonight I went alone and sat in the second row, but that didn’t take away from the vibe. If anything, it made the experience even more intense. I’ve met the band before and even had my picture taken with them, so it all felt quite familiar. And as soon as the first Beatles song kicked off, I knew: this was going to be magical again.
What makes this show so special is not just the music—performed to perfection—but also the visuals. With over 300 video clips supporting the songs, you're completely immersed in the spirit of the sixties. It truly feels like stepping into a time machine.

Passion and Precision
The energy from the stage is electric. The musicians play with such passion and precision, it’s impossible to sit still. The medleys are creative, and the setlist is packed with timeless hits. Personal highlights? Definitely The Small Faces and The Who. Jamie Goddard messaged me personally asking if I could record lots of videos and photos—and of course, I did! They’re welcome to use anything.
Whether you grew up with this music or are just discovering it—The Bootleg Sixties give you a night full of goosebumps, smiles, and beautiful memories. Close your eyes, let the music take you, and feel the magic of the sixties come to life.

10 or 11 Years in the Netherlands – Which Is It?
According to Dan, they’ve now been performing in the Netherlands for ten years—although he said the same thing last year, and just like then, a Dutch medley made its way into the set. Maybe a little memory lapse on Dan’s part? Or just an inside joke by now. Either way, they’ve become so integrated here, they might as well apply for a Dutch residency permit.
Already on Facebook and Instagram, I saw whispers that this might be their final performance. At the afterparty, I spoke with Den about it, and he confirmed nothing is final yet, but that the band needs some time off for personal reasons. Totally understandable—after so many years on tour.
Still, a certain melancholy creeps in. How can a band this good, this successful, just stop? For a moment, you feel like a teenager again, thinking: no, this can’t be the end.
