Sun Records – The Concert’ laat de gouden tijden van Sun Records in het theater weer tot leven komen. Deze zeer authentiek geproduceerde voorstelling mag zich dan ook presenteren als de enige productie ter wereld (!) met de officiële toestemming vanuit Sun Records, Memphis, Tennessee. Een zeer getalenteerde, jonge cast zingt en speelt met verve alle grote artiesten van Sun Records en hun bijbehorende wereldhits!

Algemene info:
De wervelende productie ‘Sun Records – The Concert’ vertelt het verhaal van de ‘Memphis Recording Service’ oftewel: Sun Studio te Memphis, Tennessee. Deze plek wordt gezien als de absolute bakermat van de rock-‘n-roll en hedendaagse muziek. Oprichter en eigenaar Sam Philips mag zich  de ontdekker noemen van heel veel muzikale grootheden, waaronder  B.B. King, Howling Wolf, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Rufus Thomas, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis en last but not least Elvis Presley.

 (Rond 20 uur zijn Bé en ik in het theater. We zitten op rij 2, een beetje uit het midden. Perfect. Vooraf vraag ik aan Gerry of er foto's en video's gemaakt mogen worden en wat hem betreft is dat ok. Gelukkig wordt dit ook door de geluidsboxen bevestigd. Terecht. Ik vind het zo'n onzin dat mensen daar "last" van zouden hebben. 
De show begint met Michael als jonge Elvis, de toon wordt gezet. Om de beurt komen de artiesten binnen door de Sun records deur. Grappig om te zien. Het toneel lijkt heel sobertjes, maar goed weergegeven in die tijd. 1958 of zo. De artiesten nemen ons mee op reis. 

Wat opvalt in de show, is de interactie die de artiesten zowel onder elkaar hebben als met het publiek. Ook de lol straalt er van af. Het hele podium wordt gebruikt en ze staan er niet als slome duikelaars bij. Ondanks dat de muziek misschien niet voor iedereen "herkenbaar" is, is het erg leuk om naar te kijken. Na de pauze komen de meer "bekende" nummers en wordt het allemaal ook een beetje meer rock n roll. Ik vind het een zeer geslaagde avond en heb enorm genoten.

Na de show drink ik met de cast een biertje en ga met hen op de foto. Erg leuk dat ik Gerry en Michael weer gezien heb. Leuk ook om even te kletsen met Nathan, hij is wel grappig. Jammer dat Gavin Stanley er niet bij kon zijn. Hij was in aan het toeren in de Be Bop A Lula show. Volgende keer beter.

Een dag later zie ik allerlei pentekeningen voorbijkomen en de maker is Nathan A Jordan. Ik vraag aan hem of ik ze mag gebruiken voor dit Blog. Dat mag, dus hieronder zijn ze. Klik op de eerste en vervolgens op de pijltjes.

"Sun Records - The Concert" brings the golden age of Sun Records back to life in the theater. This very authentic production can therefore present itself as the only production in the world (!) With the official permission from Sun Records, Memphis, Tennessee. A very talented, young cast sings and plays with verve all the great artists of Sun Records and their accompanying world hits!

General info:
The dazzling production "Sun Records - The Concert" tells the story of the "Memphis Recording Service" or: Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. This place is seen as the absolute birthplace of rock 'n' roll and contemporary music. Founder and owner Sam Philips can call itself the discoverer of many musical greats, including B.B. King, Howling Wolf, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Rufus Thomas, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and last but not least Elvis Presley.

Around 8 pm Bé and I are in the theater. We are in row 2, a bit off center. Perfect. In advance I ask Gerry if photos and videos can be made and as far as he is concerned that is ok. Fortunately, this is also confirmed by the audio boxes. Justly. I think it is such a nonsense that it would "bother" people.
The show starts with Michael as young Elvis, the tone is set. The artists take turns coming in through the Sun records door. Funny to see. The stage seems very simple, but well-displayed at the time. 1958 or so. The artists take us on a journey.

What is striking in the show is the interaction that the artists have both with each other and with the audience. The fun also radiates from it. The entire stage is used and they are not included as slow divers. Although the music may not be "recognizable" for everyone, it is very nice to watch. After the break the more "famous" songs come and it all becomes a bit more rock n roll. I think it was a very successful evening and I enjoyed it immensely.

After the show, I drink a beer with the cast and take a picture with them. Very nice that I saw Gerry and Michael again. Also nice to chat with Nathan, he is funny. Too bad Gavin Stanley could not be there. He was touring in the Be Bop A Lula show. Better luck next time.
